THE WORLD -From AJ, Lagos, NIGERIA:
I don't even know what to say Rod.
Ever since your last email urging us to gently let go of G21 because of the strain and unfair demands it is making of you, I have been trying to think of why I am so reluctant to let go when I know it is probably the right thing for you, why I am being so selfish and putting my needs ahead of yours.
And then Friday I went to the mosque for prayers and a girl in the thaal with me who I have never met asked if I was A------, and then she told me, smiling, that she had been reading my articles on the web and that she had really enjoyed them. I was stunned of course - as you know, I have been extremely wary about revealing my identity to anyone in the mosque.
When we had finished eating, she pulled me aside again and asked, "So what is G21?"
I am sure it was just an innocent question on her part, a conversation starter, but I stumbled over the words, not knowing what to say - how to describe what G21 was. And then I settled for a completely inadequate chronological description of how I had been writing for G21 since I was in University. But she was satisfied.
The whole afternoon I thought about what my answer should have been... and only over the weekend realised that the reason I couldn't explain it was because:
1. I didn't know myself and maybe that was one of the reasons I didn't want to let go, before knowing what exactly it meant to me
2. it wasnt my relationshp with G21 that i didn't want to let go of but my relationship with the person that embodied G21 that I didn't want to let go of, in the fear that letting go of one would mean letting go of both.
And then your email in my inbox this morning. It brought tears to my eyes and a lump to my throat.
It amazes me (and frightens me) how well you know me, when I have tried so hard to hide my true self from the world.
And maybe, selfishly again, that is why I struggle to let go.
Many of the people we meet in life shape us in some sort of way, some more than others and some more permanently than others. Don't ever doubt that you are one of those "permanent" people for me, Rod, and that you will be reflected in more than just my written words.
Let this not be a good bye. Inshallah, I look to our friendship continuing long after G21.
From Stan C., Carpenteria, CA, USA:
Subject: Shay Eustace
Dear Mr. Lennon:
I live in the United States, and need some information about Shay Eustace: how to tell which one Mr. Eustace is in the photo of Celtic Mist on your Irish Eyes site.
I also want to get a photo of him (solo; autographed, if possible) and also buy a copy of Celtic Mist albums (by mail from the U.S., total cost including shipping).? So, that's three questions I'm asking.
Behind it all is the birth of my grandson, whom his parents named Shay because, during their honeymoon, they saw that name on an instrument case when visiting Dublin.? They thought it'd be the perfect name for a son, when and if.? When won, and Shay Cornyn is alive and well in California.
All the above will be put away for Shay Cornyn, so the "why Shay?" connection, years from now, will be more real to him.
Hope you can give me some info on all this.? My email address is XXXXXX
Thanks in advance.

EDITORS NOTE: THUS IT ENDS: Not with a bang but with a whimper, as the poet said. Thanks to all of you who have taking the time to write us over the years and let us know we've touched a chord, used us as a resource to contact distant relatives around the globe, argued with our opinions or simply enjoyed the ride. We have appreciated the contact, if only because - sometimes - on the Web no one hears you scream. I hope you'll come back for the new version of this endeavor and find it equally compelling. - Cheers! RA
