This is where our readers and writers get to talk to each other.
Enjoy!
Way to go Reggie. We need more honest people like him to speak their minds instead of sitting in the background and letting a bunch of liberal A-holes dictate what goes on in this country. Do we not live in the land of the free? He should be able to speak his mind the same as you or me and not suffer the wrath of a bunch of scum suckers who want to further demoralize the foundation of this counrty It's to bad CBS got the NFL contract back as this is one NFL fan who won't be viewing any NFL games on that network.
I guess some folks need the cover of a celebrity speaking outside their area of expertise to justify their own prejudice.
Dear, dear Mr.Winbush,
I don't know what bubble you live in, but I would like you to step outside of it for a minute and venture into my little world I like to call reality. You're right, Mr. White's comments were unexpected, but what is more than that (and this might shock you): THEY WERE ALL TRUE!!
Can you deny that African-Americans are blessed with the ability to sing and dance better than any other culture in the world? Or that Hispanics have an admirably and unbelievably strong family unit? Or that Japanese and Asians have have had a better scholastic record in math and science than their American counter parts for decades? (go ahead, do a little research; it's true) Oh and are you arguing the incredible fact that Native-Americans were able to elude enslavement by the whites for over four hundred years? ( you might want to check a history book.)
As for the issue of homosexuality, (I don't know if you are a religious man, but....) it states in Leviticus 20:13, "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them has done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own hands."
Now, am I (or any other Christian) suggesting that all homosexuals should be killed? Absolutely not; not any more than a person who lies, cheats, steals, fornicates, ect. ect. These sins were all atoned for with the blood of Jesus Christ. Now, fortunately for us, God doesn't rank sins, so all sin is equal in the eyes of the Lord. The only thing Mr. White was pointing out is that it is a sin and in our world of "oh-so-political-correctness" it is not acceptable to tell someone when they are wrong because it might hurt their self-esteem; well let me tell you something Jeff: truth is not for the weak in spirit. Why should we not accept lying, cheating, stealing, fornicating, if we are going to accept this immorality? (And yes, I am comparing the sin of homosexuality to stealing, lying, cheating ect, because that is as it is in the Bible) Mr. Reggie White is an outstanding man. He has proven that time and time again. He is also, however, a man of truth; and the truth is something that alot of people in this world are too weak to handle, much less stand up for, but that is exactly what Mr. White has done. May God bless Mr. Reggie White for being an example to us all.
Sincerely,
Sarah P.
Excellent peace on "Our Wonderful Positive Cant". Now on my favorites.
Thing is, that's a cobweb site now. The last new article there was done by Yours Unruly back in the summer of '97. In fact, if memory serves, I wrote the article you mention in February, 1997! Wow! Seems like just yesterday.
Anyway, if I were you, I think I'd stay here to see the new stuff!
great work
love the article, keep writing and i hope you find your share of success

IT'S JEFF WINBUSH's TURN IN THE DUNKING POOL...
FROM Dave D., [NO CITY PROVIDED,] USA:
JEFF WINBUSH RESPONDS: I've often wondered why people such as David find it necessary to find a spokesperson for their narrow-minded bigotry and homophobia. Could it be they don't feel comfortable in expressing their distaste for this group or another unless they can point to a celebrity and say, "See, so-and-so thinks the way I do." It must be terrible to be afraid to speak your mind until a known quantity such as Reggie White pops off.
FROM Sarah P. [NO CITY PROVIDED], Oklahoma, USA:
JEFF WINBUSH RESPONDS: Thanks for a well thought out and well written letter, Sarah. I respect your opinion as I respect Reggie White's. However, I cannot agree that endulging in stereotypes or promoting homophobia is courageously standing up against "political correctness." I don't deny or in any way diminish the fact that White is one athlete who dares to say what is on his mind and is extremely active in giving something back to the community and sports fans. That's all well and good. My problem is Reggie White's appalling intolerance and scapegoating of gays and lesbians. You don't have to like homosexuals. You can believe in the Bible and think that such people are sick or an abominiation. Fine and dandy, this is still America. However, if you are bound and determined to express those views out loud, then you'd better be prepared to hear from those who don't agree . I'm not saying my column on Reggie was the definitive word. It's only my thoughts on the matter and I'm entitled to express it. As are you and as is Mr. White. And just maybe if we're all honest with each other we can begin to see our common interests instead of our differences.
