"When the war starts, the truth is the first victim!" -Pousonby
"If history could teach us something, then it is the fact that opposite opinions could never be silenced. If there is a wish of listeners, an informative channel will be always found and the message will have even stronger echo", it is said in the letter of the International Press Institute emphasising that this attack on media in FRY [Federal Republic of Yugoslavia] will have consequences out of the borders of that state as well.

All [of the] states [who are] members of NATO are signatories of the UN Charter on human rights in which it is clearly written that "everybody has right to freedom of thoughts and speech", it is said in the letter. "This also applies to opinions and views which are opposite to ours", it was stated in the letter signed by IPI president Johan Fritz.

No matter how depressed I was after deliberate murdering of my colleagues from State TV, those words make me believe that ethics and professionalism will finally overcome the notorious factory of lies which produced this actual tragedy in Yugoslavia.

As I stressed before, there's in my heart not a slightest "sympathy" for Milosevic's regime and especially his attitude towards the freedom of the press. But today in the middle of wrecked Belgrade, not even his regime forbids me to watch freely CNN, SKY, BBC, German satellite programmes, and other world's satellite media. Also, I can even buy a lot of foreign newspapers and magazines. I have the liberty to form my own opinion on the bas[is] of the various sources. In the rest of Europe, there is only one truth - the official NATO claims.

When I've heard the accusation of NATO spokesman Jamie Shea that Albanian children are used by Serbs as blood donors I was totally taken aback! One must have a really sick mind to launch such a statement without a single evidence. But it was not the first time. The British press calls Shea "the champion of the lies". The accusations levelled against the Serbs have escalated from "brutal repression" to "genocide", "atrocities" and "crimes against humanity", as NATO has sought to justify the bombing. The British Defence Secretary George Robertson said: "They tell lies about us, we will go on telling the truth about them".

Even before NATO proclaimed Yugoslav media for the "legitimate military target", on April 5, the Independent published an article written by Philip Hammond - a senior lecturer in Media Studies at South Bank University in London who said:

"It takes two sides to fight a propaganda war, yet critical commentary on the 'war of words' has so far concentrated on the 'tightly controlled' Yugoslav media. We have been shown clips from 'Serb TV' and invited to scoff at their patriotic military montages, while British journalists cast doubt on every Yugoslav 'claim'. But whatever one thinks of the Yugoslav media they pale into insignificance alongside the propaganda offensive from Washington, Brussels and London. NATO told us the three captured US servicemen were United Nations peacekeepers.

Not true.

They told us they would show us two captured Yugoslav pilots who have never appeared. Then we had the story of the 'executed' Albanian leaders which was unconfirmed. When the Albanian leader Ibrahim Rugova, who was said to be in hiding, turned up on Yugoslav television condemning Nato bombing, the BBC contrived to insinuate that the pictures were faked, while others suggested Rugova must have been coerced, blackmailed, drugged, or at least misquoted.

They told us the paramilitary leader Arkan was in Kosovo, when he was appearing almost daily in Belgrade - and being interviewed by John Simpson there.

They told us Pristina stadium had been turned into a concentration camp for 100,000 ethnic Albanians, when it was empty.

Robertson posing for photographers in the cockpit of a Harrier can't have been propaganda. Only the enemy goes in for that sort of thing.

Nato's undeclared propaganda war is two-pronged. First, Nato has shamelessly sought to use the plight of Albanian refugees for its own purposes, cynically inflating the number of displaced people to more than twice the UN estimate. Correspondents in the region are given star billing on BBC news, and are required not just to report but to share their feelings with us. As Peter Sissons asked Ben Brown in Macedonia: 'Ben, what thoughts go through a reporter's mind seeing these sights in the dying moments of the 20th century?'

Anothe victim of the NATO "mistake" in Nis.
Another victim of the

Reports from the refugee centres are used as justifications for Nato strategy. The most striking example was the video footage smuggled out of Kosovo said to show 'mass murder'. The BBC presented this as the "first evidence of alleged atrocities,' unwittingly acknowledging that the allies had been bombing for 10 days without any evidence.

Indeed, for days, the BBC had been inviting us to 'imagine what may be happening to those left in Kosovo'. After watching the footage, Robin Cook apparently knew who had been killed, how they had died, and why. Above all, he knew that the video "underlines the need for military action". The second line of attack is to demonise Milosevic and the Serbs, in order to deflect worries that the tide of refugees has been at least partly caused, by Nato's 'humanitarian' bombing. Parts of Pristina have been flattened after being bombed every day for more than a week. Wouldn't you leave? And what about of thousands of Serbian refugees from Kosovo - are they being 'ethnically cleansed', too? Sympathy does not extend to them, just as the 200,000 Serbian refugees from Krajina were ignored in 1995. Instead, the tabloids gloat 'Serbs you right' as the missiles rain down."

That video footage of "mass murder" - which I saw and it is really very smashing - has a few interesting details.

First, you can see only dead bodies of young man - there were no woman, no children, no older people. From the crime scene no one could conclude where it happened.

Some of these bodies, carefully assorted one beside each other are half -burned, but the next body along has not a single burn.

There are no traces of parched ground, trees or scattered cloth around the bodies.

From the position of the cadavers, a careful observer will perceive [a] closely and effectively arranged scene and two hands (one is holding the camera while other reverses the bodies) - and the BBC's source has told [us] that he was alone!

Then, BBC screened the footage on April 3, this year, with the explanation that the person who gave them the tape had been hiding in the woods for 7 days. It means that the video was taken on March 28, but in the lower left corner of this footage there is a clear date "1.4.99" (date, month, year). Beside[s], there are no evidence who killed those people - just a word of the unknown person. It looks like the Hollywood's "Wag the Dog" production!

[A Note from the Writer:] Dear Rod,

I agree that Milosevic and the politicians like him are the great evil, but this time it is not the question of the regime and the Ruler. This is a matter of life and death of thousands of innocent people who had already suffered a lot during the sanctions imposed in the time of Bosnian war, after that in "democracy" and now when the West is trying to "remove" Milosevic with the "smart bombs" and demonize the whole nation.

And those lies are offending all of us even more than the bombs. That's [what is] unifying people here and make them not... think of the regime, but [of] pure survival. And those who survive will challenge the regime afterwards.

This article is dedicated to the "freedom of the press" - and I know that such a freedom is just a nice ilusion not only here. I understand that, and that's why I'm worried about you...

They will continue to kill us no matter if you publish my articles or not. We cannot stopp the bombs. I can lose my life (corporal) and it is just a moment of pain, but you can lose a lot more and that will be a long time pain. It takes a lot of curage to subsist.

Both of us - my husband and I think a lot about you, thankful for your prayers and deeds. So, this time we hope that you'll be safe. I'm too tired to continue but the very first thing in the morning will be to sent you the answer for Vox populi and the photos. This is a miracoulous night - for the first time since the war begun there are no sirens of air allert!!!!! I'll try to take that advantage and have a good sleep.

Regards,
Dragana
