IRVINE, CA., Aug. 14, 2001 - Axcelerant Inc. today announced the extension of Axcelerant LifeLine to customers of Rhythms Netconnections Inc., the DSL provider that announced it is shutting down its broadband Internet access services.
The Axcelerant LifeLine program manages the migration of corporate broadband connections with little or no service interruption for businesses that are concerned about the financial or operational stability of their broadband service providers.
"Rhythms is going to terminate service on September 10," said Robert Heintz, chief executive officer of Axcelerant, a leading nationwide provider of managed private networks and virtual private networks (VPN) that use cable, DSL and ISDN technologies.
"That deadline gives companies using DSL lines from Rhythms just 20 business days to find another broadband supplier," said Heintz. "Does the company even know it has a problem? Maybe not, because employees or branch offices may be purchasing broadband services from an ISP that outsources to Rhythms.
"The clock is ticking. The scramble is on. Corporate networks can't go dark. Companies need to quickly deploy a VPN to replace Rhythms-based connections," said Heintz. "But a crisis is not the time to learn the complexities of VPN technology or to understand the legal issues related to operating VPNs over cable modems. At Axcelerant, we do this every day."

Axcelerant LifeLine organizes and administers the transition of managed private network and VPN services over a variety of last-mile broadband platforms. The migration to alternative last-mile broadband providers occurs with minimal interruption to the enterprise.
A special Axcelerant LifeLine Team reviews service issues with each enterprise, and guides the transfer of broadband networks while also addressing the operational, network, technology and legal issues involved with such migrations.
The transition is a fully managed process, with all project management, operational, network, and technology aspects handled by Axcelerant. As a result, enterprises and their end users are able to take advantage of Axcelerant's experience in managing the complexities involved with distressed carriers and service providers -- and the flexibility offered by Axcelerant's relationships with established DSL providers such as SBC (SBC) and Verizon (VZ) and cable providers like Cox Communications (COX) and Time Warner (AOL).
"Providing turn-key support to enterprises with existing Rhythms broadband connections is the most important aspect of Axcelerant LifeLine," said Heintz. "We offer stable, managed broadband services to customers struggling with a migration from Rhythms. With Axcelerant LifeLine, we provide affected enterprises a flexible and simple way to migrate networks, with little or no disruption to their networks."
"We have worked diligently to make the Axcelerant LifeLine experience as quick, seamless and painless as possible for the enterprise and the affected end users," said Heintz. "With the financial and operational difficulties faced by Northpoint, Rhythms (RTHM.OB), CAIS Internet (CAIS.OB) and other broadband telecommunications and service providers, we've gained experience in how to manage a complex and difficult situation with as little service disruption as possible."
Managed Private Networks use DSL and ISDN to securely connect remote office and home office users to their respective corporate network. Axcelerant's Fortune 1000 clients include, among others, Oracle, Broadcom, Cadence Design Systems Inc. and Sun Microsystems. Corporate headquarters is located at 130 Theory #100, Irvine, CA 92612, 1-888-546- 6245.
