G21 INSIDER

Publisher's Notes

HIGGANUM, CT - 4 October, 1998: Autumn is settling in here in New England, my old stomping grounds, and I'm being made to recollect the true meaning of seasonal change. My friend Mardi brought her 200+ potted plans in from the out-of-doors this week, racing to beat the inevitable first frost. Her husband, my long-time friend Sal, spends his weekends getting the house ready for winter. I don layers of clothing and dream about hot toddies by the fireplace... I guess that's what's behind this week's tag-line, "Season of the Wolf."

Composing this week's Notes I was led to think of Marat, writing his daily "Message To The People" from his bathtub. I am amazed he could pull it off. I find it hard enough to do this every week, let alone imagining have something to say every single day.

The Get-A-Load-Of-This KidBased on the various e-mails I receive each day suggesting some new crusade which the GENERATOR 21 should champion, I had begun to believe that I was King of America. My pal, ROBIN MILLER, disabuses me of such illusions with his DAY ONE article for this inaugural issue of our "Season of the Wolf" edition. Check it out. I'm glad he set me straight.

In fact, this week a long-treasured dream of mine regarding our Day One feature was realized. I had always imagined that Day One should be an Op-Ed style column, but few people seemed to get the idea. That's all changed. Now, not only to I have a week's worth of contributions from JEFF WINBUSH in Ohio and WOLF DEVOON in the United Kingdom, I even have a piece on spec from Loyal Reader, BOB PURVIS in Maryland. Wow....

Another site made on a Macintosh

Another of my dreams, you see, is that a large part of what you find when you visit this site is material contributed by our readership, our "community of interest," so to speak. I think its a sign of the health of publication that its Loyal Rooters don't simple come here to lurk, but that feel welcomed to speak their minds. We welcome you using this magazine as your soapbox and hope that we have created an open enough atmosphere that new dialogues can begin here.

Features like THE FIRST TIME, DAY ONE, SEA OF DREAMS, VOX POPULI, HOUSE OF CARDS, and FAX NIKITA exemplify that vision of the magazine. If you haven't visited these features yet, I hereby recommend them. Just go to ABOUT YOU page to check them out.

And you have an idea for a new column or feature here, just drop me an e-mail. I read and respond to them all.

Thanks for coming back this week.

We're glad you're here. We have a lot to offer this(and EVERY) week. Stick around. More importantly: TELL EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS. We want you here EVERY DAY.

WHY?

Because we like you....

Be Good to Each Other,
Rod
