G21 INSIDER

Publisher's Notes

Rod AmisSANTA ROSA, CA. - 6 August, 1998: Anarchists, Libertarians, Socialists, Radicals: seems like a lot of people fitting these labels have either written for or patronized this site over the 30 months of our existence. On Labor Day(and May Day) we usually give them more reasons to recall why our original tag-line was "Satire and Commentary for Those Who Ultimately Pay..."

This Labor Day edition is no different. We feature our interview with SRINI KUMAR of Unamerican.com . [This is another joint-publishing venture with Suite 101.]

We don't treat Srini with kid gloves, though. Yours Unruly puts on his Mike Wallace cap, because we mean to be as demanding of the people with whom we share sympathies as those who we diametrically oppose. We believe you will find the interview instructive.

Editor Kvetch

Here's a line I never thought I'd commit to paper or web site: I'm writing too often.

I feel this way as I look at this kick-off of our Labor Day edition: three out of seven features are mine. Beg as I have my writers to pick up the slack on the Day One column, I have gotten scant back-up. Which means I am writing three new articles a week here, if I don't have any other projects(this week's Unamerican.com interview, for example.) PLUS my weekly column at Andover News Network, AND my column at Suite 101.

As one pal commented this week: "You're becoming ubiquitous."

The problem with that is that it is taking all of my time just to keep up. Which means there's none of the down-time that I need to do necessary research and re-charge the creative engine...

Did I mention that I recently signed a contract to produce IT columns for Faulkner Information Services, out of New Jersey?

"You're a professional writer, Rod," you might choose to comment, Loyal Reader. "How can you complain about what you do?"

I'm not complaining about what I do, I'm complaining about the lack of my illustrious team of other professional writers here at the G21 not backing up the bandleader. I'm complaining --- kvetching, yes! --- that the Editor and webslinger has begged for help with the Day One feature, and found his pleading falling on deaf ears! Arrgh!

Okay. I feel better now.

Web Trips

It is once in a blue moon that a site sent to me, especially as part of an obvious spam, makes me stand up and take notice. That happened today. A guy named A. Weber, supposedly, spammed Yours Unruly about a site called the "Acid Trip Outlaw Website." It's the Bells & Whistles site of the day, in my estimation, and even has some valuable info. It's awesome. I am leaning on Raheem to give it our Silver Surf Award. If you go there, I think you'll see why.

IN THIS ISSUE: Besides the Kumar interview, we have our usual line-up of great features. In today's issue, JEFF WINBUSH is back to talk about the state of modern music; ADAM J. SMITH looks at how "spin" has everything to do with funding for the war on drugs; and there's an a new reader story in THE FIRST TIME. We'll have a lot for you this week.

And remember to slug that next person who admonishes you to "Get back to work!"

Thanks for coming back this week.

We're glad you're here. We have a lot to offer this(and EVERY) week. Stick around. More importantly: TELL EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS. We want you here EVERY DAY.

WHY?

Because we like you....

Be Good to Each Other,
Rod

And when not busy with publishing chores at this site, and answering sixty -to- one hundred e-mails a day, he likes to throw darts, seek female companionship, and listen to Tupac, Beethoven, Philip Glass, Joni Mitchell, James Carter, Eric Clapton, Snoop Dogg, Etta James, Miles Davis, Handel, Portishead, Sinead O'Connor, techno, house, jazz.... You get the idea.
