Publisher's Notes

SAN FRANCISCO - 21 June, 1998: Some weeks, filling this space is like taking a walk in the park. This is not one of them. I feel as though the rug has been pulled from under my feet.

MORE BEHIND-THE-SCENES STUFF: As noted on our cover, the Loyal Writers here did not want to continue with the practice of building our editions around a weekly theme. This bunch is more amenable to a free-for-all. As you might imagine, that makes my job of editing the magazine, and attempting to maintain some level of continuity, all the more difficult. But I'll get used to it.

This week's cover reflects that most recent change. The navigational scheme has been altered to give you some idea of what to expect from each of our columns. Let me know if this works for you.

Meanwhile, Yours Unruly's attentions will be divided this week. There's the daily upkeep of this journal, as always. But I have also committed to make more of a contribution over at Suite101, which means updating my column on 'Net Publishing there more often, and reviewing many more websites. Come over and check me there sometimes, when you're not here. Finally, for both publications, I'll be among the hordes of web press descending on Moscone Center here in San Francisco to cover the Web Design and Development '98 conference being sponsored by Web Conference LogoMiller Freeman, Web Techniques, and Web Review. We shall all attempt to suss out what the next trends in this medium are, what the next "Killer App'" will be, and who has a website to watch. You'll get my first dispatches from that little shindig later this week here, and in a week or so over at the Suite.

IN THIS EDITION: As promised the second member of our Sports team, "KO" Olson debuts in tonight's issue. We hope you'll make Kris feel as welcome as you did Wally Worts. This means that you'll get twice the Sports coverage here, which we believe will prove a good thing. Seems like neither of these guys is too excited about World Cup, but that could change.... This week also marks the demise of our TRIO column, as THOMAS HART now has the TABLOID HART column, and RADIO RAHEEM goes back to this LIFE ON THE STREET beat. I'm sad to see the TRIO feature go, as it gave me a rotating home to stretch my own chops, and a venue for special guests.... ADAM SMITH's ON DRUGS will be back in our Tuesday issue, as I had so much new material for this issue, as will BOB POWERS new review feature, POWERSSOUNDS.... So come back soon!

We're glad you're here. As you can see from the nav' bar to our upper left, we have a lot to offer this(and EVERY) week. Stick around. More importantly: TELL EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS. We want you here EVERY DAY.

WHY?

Because we like you....

Be Good to Each Other,
Rod
