NOVI SAD - [AUTHOR'S NOTE - The following is the transcript of a telephone conversation between the European Union Briefings man for NATO and his Superior. I know this just must have taken place. ---RD]

"What are you doing in this bloody Europe? Why [was] Mr. Baton Hadziju not informed that he was killed by [the] Serbians before he had flaunted himself in London?"

"It is not my fault, boss! I [said] a few times during the briefings that he was dead. It is not my fault he doesn't read newspapers..."

"Well, you can always find a way..."

"I know what you are speaking about, boss, but I am not paid for such job[s]. You should try ... CIA or something."

"You are not helping me, Seanocchio."

"Really? Who had cooked up the idea that Serbs destroyed their own graveyard in Pristina with [the] purpose of discredit[ing] NATO, when our 'natural' missed with his missile? You are employing nuts and than I have to find a solution..."

"OK, OK..."

"Nothing is OK! I am doing my best, I am giving my best ideas to [the] alliance and what [do] I receive for it? I am not speaking only about money, but you don't allow me to express all of my aptitude. Bridge in Novi Sad, for example..."

"Which bridge?

"The oldest one! I had a brilliant story to explain that this bridge was a military target - soldiers used to use it when they went to the bar on the other Danube bank and we destroyed it because we want them be dead-beat[s] making a few hundred meters bypass..."

"Not bad..."

"Of course it is not bad. Bad is that I was not able to use this story. Some coxcomb had destroyed thesecond bridgethere and my story lost [its] highlight. How I can work under such conditions?"

"Well, [these] things are happening in the war..."

"[They] shouldn't if we are as perfect as I am telling to world press every day. At least, if we are not, we should try to look like [we can] intimidate Mr. Milosevic..."

"Well, Mr. Milosevic is in fact a reason why I am calling you. You should stop with the story that we are not fighting against Yugoslavian citizens, but against him and his regime..."

"No problem, boss. I know that it is not my business but could you tell me why?"

"Well, some naive Yugoslavian could try to invoice Mr. Milosevic for damages we are making. We don't want him to be in such [a] situation. In the long run, however, he is our partner, isn't he?"
A division tool.
